From 1913 series of Wills's cigarette cards (No 93) Text on reverse of card: JOHN RUSKIN. (Hybrid Tea.) An exhibitor's rose with erect and vigorous habit of growth, and large shell-like petals which form a massive flower carried on a long erect stem. Will thrive in any position, and in an excellent autumn bloomer. May be pruned hard for showing purposes, but when grown for the garden the shoots should only be reduced by two-thirds. Introduced in 1902.
