Lambert calls his rose "Fritz Graf Schwerin" which means as much us Frederic, Count of Schwerin. Schwerin is the capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in northeastern Germany. I believe Graf Fritz Schwerin is incorrect, as it would mean Count Frederic Schwerin, which would make Schwerin a surname.

There are at least 5 roses that start with Graf and another 4 that start with Gräfin (which I assume means Countess). Most were named by Lambert. Do you think this naming issue applies to any of the others? I'm not comfortable making a change without knowing more. Perhaps this is a consistent Anglicization of the form of address.

Graf Alfred Harrach
Graf Frtiz Schwerin
Graf Fritz von Hochberg
Graf Silva Tarouca
Graf Zeppelin
Gräfin Ada von Bredow
Gräfin Chotek
Gräfin Marie Henriette Chotek
Gräfin Stephanie Wedel

I understand your point. In the other examples you list, the form Graf... is correct, as von Zeppelin, von Bredow, Harrach etc. are family surnames. I will see if I can find in the German genealogy book Gotha, whether Schwerin was used as the family name (i.e. Graf Fritz Schwerin) or was only the reference to the town (i.e. Fritz Graf Schwerin).

Fritz Graf von Schwerin (* 16. Mai 1856; † 9. März 1934) was from 1902 to 1934 the president of the Deutschen Dendrologischen Gesellschaft (German dendrology society). He was a dendrologist and writer.
