Has anyone planted Elmshorn in partial shade? Does it still bloom profusely in shady conditions?

Yes, it does in my garden, even if it gets only 3 hours of sun. It' very healthy and grows up to 2.5 metrs easily if left alone. Phantastic background rose (upright habit, no deadheading necessary, huge prickles, no scent).

This is simply a postscript to my previous comment. These plants are amazing, yes, but the stems are weak. A moderate rain, moderate spraying with hose, or brushing past the bush while walking results in the entire flower head falling off its stem. But otherwise everything I said still stands!

My solution for weak stems is banana peels (not the whole banana!). Grind them up in the blender and pour them around the base of the plant. I use two peels for a small rose, and up to six peels for a large bush; I apply them in spring and after the first bloom. You can freeze the peels until you need them. Try banana peels -- I think you will see a huge difference.
