I was wondering why the world entire doesn't rave about this rose, but the comments here help me understand. I garden in a zone 8 Mediterranean garden in Italy, and apparently have hit the sweet spot for this rose, which for me is magnificent. A couple of disclaimers: beetles do love it and frequently damage the blooms, and I can't say much about rebloom, as my garden is unirrigated, and nothing reflowers if we don't get decent rain early enough in the fall. The plant is vase shaped, with good foliage, beautiful when young, and the plant is in scale with the blooms. These are large, very full, pale pink, deeper in color in the center, and scented. A good portion of the roses in my garden get mildew in the summer, and it's unsightly but not particularly damaging; 'Enfant de France' may be one of them, but I've never noticed it greatly bothered by disease. Both my plants are own-root, and both are growing in poor ground, heavy rocky clay, one invaded by running grass but holding its own. They're not much bothered by cane girdler or any other of our local pests, and are growing in full beating sun. One of them is growing close to plants of 'Marchesa Boccella' and 'Reine des Violettes', two own-root plants both of which are thriving: I mention this to give an idea of what kind of conditions 'Enfant de France' might like.

I had the same experience as wordycat with this rose. It was covered with powdery mildew in CA. I finally took it out.

This is a very beautiful rose! I won best novice at my local rose society's rose show this year with it.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me more about this rose. It does not rebloom at all for me and has a big problem with powdery mildew. Any comments would be appreciated!
