Origin:
Bred by Julien-ALEXANDRE Hardy (France, 1831).
Introduced in France by Péan-Sylvain in 1837 as 'Prince Eugène'.
Introduced in Australia by Northampton Nurseries in 1861 as 'Eugène Beauharnais'.
Class:
Bourbon, China / Bengale, Hybrid China.  
Bloom:
Purple, carmine-red center.  Strong fragrance.  Average diameter 2.25".  Medium, full (26-40 petals), cluster-flowered bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles.  Small, dark green foliage.  5 leaflets.  

Height: 2' to 4' (60 to 120cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 5b through 10b.  Can be used for beds and borders or garden.  Disease susceptibility: disease resistant.

Eugène de Beauharnais, the son of Empress Josephine, was born 3 September 1781 and died 21 February 1824. He governed Italy from 1805 to 1814.
