Sweetness (Garden)  On perfume alone this creamy white large paeony-shaped rose is worth a place.  It is unusual and delightful with a rich fragrance. Some of these varieties belie the often expressed opinion that modern roses lack fragrance. Good grower.  Fragrant. Habit 3. (HT)
Book  (1947)  Page(s) 247.

'Sweetness' (HT) has a spiralled double flower of lemon-yellow, suffused with cerise-pink, produced from plants of moderate growth with glossy green foliage. Dickson 1937. Deciduous. Medium growth. Moderately fragrant. Bedding, Garden. June-September. Hardy.
Book  (1946)  Page(s) 92.

Mr. S. J. Bisdee.  Tasmanian Notes
Sweetness is yielding lovely blooms of much greater substance and deeper colour than I usually get, and also of greater petalage. I was becoming rather disappointed with this as it lacked substance, and was very floppy. However, it is a great plant, if thorny, and if I can continue to get blooms like they are now, I will be a happy man.

'Sweetness'. Buds buff with vermillion edging, opening to large, perfectly shaped creamy white paeony-like flowers with a delightful fragrance. Strong growth. Highly recommended.

Mr. S. J. Bisdee.  Tasmanian Rose Notes
Sweetness. Here we have a thing of outstanding merit. It out distanced all other varieties in growth, and is well named for its fragrance. A semi-double flower of great beauty and perfect form. The colour here is more of a lemon-yellow, flushed pink.

p101.  S. R. Bird. Notes from Auckland
Sweetness has given only loose, pale blooms and does not impress at all.

p133.   Mr John Poulsen, NZ.  Canterbury Roses
Sweetness.- Very vigorous growth, with good foliage and flowering freely. The early blooms were of a very fine honey yellow colour, but those of the second blooming were rather pale. Seems to be worth growing as a garden Rose.

New Roses 1938.  Sweetness (HT. A. Dickson & Sons 1937) F. 3.  Enormous paeony-like blooms of 30 petals which are perfectly shaped.  The buds are buff with vermilion edging and open to large, creamy white flowers with a delightful fragrance.  Highly recommended.  E.

Sweetness HT. (A. Dickson & Sons, 1937) has long pointed buds opening to huge paeony-like flowers of indifferent creamy white colour. The petals vary from 23 to 30, and often have a ragged appearance.

Sweetness, H.T. (Dickson), 25 broad petals, very delicate and attractive shadings, but opens too quickly and will probably not take on.

Sweetness.- So far this variety has been disappointing, but again I prefer to withhold final comment..

Bush Roses
Sweetness (Hybrid Tea) By Dicksons of Hawlmark, 1937... Apricot on a light buttercup ground washed and shaded light rosy cerise with a deeper amber base; as it develops the colour becomes maize-yellow washed with pale rose. Bud is very long and pointed; flower large, full and of perfect spiral form, with deep, wide, beautifully reflexed petals. The fragrance, as the name suggests, is truly delightful. Of very strong, bushy growth, carrying its blooms erect on long graceful stems. Handsome, large, bright, glossy green foliage. It is impossible to imagine anything more lovely than this exquisite flower. For sheer beauty and quality it is unequalled and must appeal to all connoisseurs. The highest praise has been given to "Sweetness" by all who have seen it growing and exhibited. A truly great Rose. Gold Medal N.R.S.
