Introduced in Australia by C. F. Newman and Sons - Adelaide in 1894 as 'Sécretaire J. Nicolas'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Dark red, purple shading, violet-red reverse.  Moderate fragrance.  Large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, cupped, globular bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Light green foliage.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b and warmer.  Vigorous.
