Goldilocks' was an important Floribunda  in two ways, from being easily the best yellow up to its introduction in 1945, and from setting the style of the class firmly into double flowers of Hybrid Tea type, as 'Rosenelfe' had first shown to be possible. It also introduces us to an American breeder so successful with this type of rose he was nicknamed Papa  Floribunda.   Eugene Boemer was born  in 1893 .....
Goldilocks'  was a pleasant soft yellow colour, perfectly complemented by the grassy green of its leaves. It was raised from a seedling x 'Doubloons', the latter being a yellow climber from M. H. Horvath, of Mentor, Ohio, raised from interesting parents, a hybrid of R. setigera (the Prairie Rose) x a hybrid of R. foetida bicolor (`Austrian Copper'); it had been introduced  in 1934. Thus Goldilocks'  brought some  new blood into Floribundas, and  in due time passed it on to `Allgold'.

In 1945 came the great break in 'Goldilocks' for this, although pale primrose, was a strong and effective grower. It was good for crossing but for one grave fault, its inability to shatter, i.e. to drop its old bloom cleanly. Time and again it ruined its progeny by transmitting this fault.
