Doctor Eldon Lyle Red Grandiflora, plant patent applied for.  This new red Grandiflora is named in honor of Dr E. W. Lyle, plant pathologist, Texas Rose Research Foundation, Inc, in recognition of his accomplishments benefiting field and garden growing of roses. The ‘Doctor Eldon Lyle’ rose is outstanding in its great production of blooms,  The high centers and bright velvet red make it suitable for exhibiting.  It has a slight centifolia fragrance that is pleasing. Flowers form on strong stems, with length for arranging or vase use.  The plant is upright in growth, compact in habit, and with young foliage and stems of attractive reddish colour. The vigor of development of the bush is an exceptional attribute. This cultivar was hybridized by Ian F. Mackay (The Conard-Pyle Co., with the assignment of the patent to the Texas Rose Research Foundation Inc). Trials have proved that this rose grows well in various climates from Maine to California.
