L'étude du parfum des roses par Neville F. Miller, spécialiste dans ce domaine, est fort intéressante mais très compliquée pour celui dont le vocabulaire chimique est assez pauvre même dans sa langue maternelle, je vais donc faire mon mieux pour me tirer de cette tâche avec le minimum d'erreurs. (American Rose Annual 1963) ...L'auteur a étudié 170 variétés sous différentes conditions atmosphériques et constaté l'existence de plus de 25 parfums élémentaires et de beaucoup de combinaisons de ceux-ci. Les plus fréquents sont : capucine, iris, violette, pomme, orange, citron, girofle, géranium. Un tableau groupe les 34 parfums principaux et composés, les variétés correspondantes étant rangées en conséquence...

Grande Duchesse Charlotte is quite a sensational colour, aptly described as tomato-red—ideal for home decoration, wonderful under artificial light and mixes well with bright yellow roses. It blooms freely on very long hard, thin-wooded, dark stems.

Grand Duchess Charlotte is very unique in colour and a tall, thin type of growth, with plenty of highly coloured blooms, described almost accurately as "tomato red." It is not "just another red Rose," for it is really quite a new and very vivid colour. It goes on to a not unattractive wine shade as the bloom ages. With a few more petals it would be a marvellous Rose, but well worth growing even as it is, for decorative purposes.

Grande Duchess Charlotte, from Ketten Brothers in Luxembourg, and Mary Margaret McBride from the late Doctor Jean Nicholas, both A.A.R.S. winners in 1942, have unique features that make them worthwhile. Grande Duchess Charlotte presents a new colour in Roses and is particularly well adapted to the cooler and more moist areas of the United States, such as the Pacific Coast. Mary Margaret McBride, on the other hand, is outstanding for perfection of form in buds and open flowers in the warmer inland areas of the United States.
