Colour dark crimson, shaded black, very free flowering; bushy growth with glossy mildew proof foliage; a splendid Rose for forcing, bedding and decorative work. 1924 Hazlewood Bros., Nursery. Growth vigorous; glossy mildew-proof foliage; very free flowering. General MacArthur x Red Letter Day. Fine for forcing, bedding and decorative purposes and considered to be better than Hadley. Award of Merit. Promising.
1925 The Rose Annual, UK. p179. Lewis Levy. Spotting the Winners. Ma Fiancee (H.T.) G. A. Van Rossem. General McArthur [sic] x Red Letter Day). A very dark crimson Rose, shaded black. Except that it has wonderful fragrance I cannot say very much for this Rose. The growth is rathery stumpy, but the foliage is good, and it flowers freely. The blooms “blue” so badly that you only occasionally see it in its true colours.
