A rose named 'Claude Monet' was raised by Delbard several years ago as part of a series of roses named after painters. The selection was not initiated by Giverny, nor has it any bearing on Monet's preferences. Plans were made to launch it at Giverny but so far the 'Claude Monet' rose has not materialized...

A watercolor illustration of this rose... and a description of the components of its fragrance... Delbard had seen this rose and several similarly marked roses in California during a stint with Jackson & Perkins and when he returned to France he dubbed them Painter's Roses. He describes this one as A rose with white, red, yellow tongues of flame. A bud may burst in crimson and that shade will soften as the other colors come to life...
