General plant and bloom architecture look like 'Birthday Girl', except that it is less double and more coral-red toned. I cannot see how they are not related somehow.

Yes, 'Artiste' only has five petals. I think the charm of 'Birthday Girl' (generally known as 'Cocorico' in France) lies in the wave of its petals. As for their being related to each other, you may be right, but seedlings with that sort of colouring do turn up quite often in the breeding houses of large-scale breeders.
