Exhibition name: Little Butterfly
Bloom:
Pink blend. Mild to strong, musk fragrance. 5 petals. Average diameter 0.5". Small, single (4-8 petals), cluster-flowered, in large clusters, cupped-to-flat bloom form. Continuous (perpetual) bloom throughout the season.
Habit:
Bushy, compact, dense, well-branched. Medium, semi-glossy, light green foliage.
Height: 3' to 4' (90 to 120cm). Width: 2' to 4' (60 to 120cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 2b through 8b. Can be used for beds and borders, container rose, garden, hedge, landscape, rock garden, shrub or specimen. Very hardy. can be grown as a shrub. flowers drop off cleanly. heat tolerant. shade tolerant. Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant. Can be grown in the ground or in a container (container requires winter protection). Can be pruned to maintain a shorter habit. Needs little care; relatively disease-free and quite hardy.
Breeder's notes:
From the first time this rose bloomed, it has impressed me. As it matured, I began noticing how it could easily be 'tucked' into corners and spaces where color is needed. It's been used under large, old climbing Teas to provide cover for "bare legs"; in small to large beds; as potted roses on balconies, decks and patios; short hedges and borders; and to frame the Rose Window in a local Catholic Church's new construction. It's shown itself to be highly disease resistant in climates as diverse as the Southern California deserts all the way to the beach at Malibu! Little Butterfly has proven itself to be quite shade tolerant, and has been reported to have withstood 9 degree ice storms as 4", own root plants on exposed tables at Ashdown Roses.
Official ARS classification changed from shrub to polyantha 11/26/2011 by request of the breeder.
