'Schneewittchen' rose Reviews & Comments

I see that the Vintage people in their 'Book of Roses' suggest that their plant, received from Schultheis, may be identical with 'Katherina Zeimet', though they're not sure. Any ideas about possible confusion of the two varieties? I notice that Petrovic is listing a lot of rare Polyanthas in their online catalog. I have an impression, and I'm not sure how I got this idea, that they're getting plants from Sangerhausen. They don't list the provenance of their varieties.

Vintage say their plant of ‘Schneewittchen ‘ was “bright white” so it seems their hunch that it was ‘Katharine Zeimet’ may have been correct. According to the 1931 reference where Lewis Levy listed the two roses, ‘Katharine Zeimet’ is pure white, whilst ‘Schneewittchen’ is creamy white.

Here is the parentage to Lambert's Schneewittchen:

Aglaia x seedling from Paquerette x Souvenir de Mme. Levet

Source: "Das Rosenbuch" editors Wilhelm Mütze & Camillo Schneider, Berlin 1924

Unfortunately there are no parentheses in the quote.

Peter Lambert states Schneewittchen as bred in 1901. Same date is given in the Sangerhausen Rosenverzeichnis.
