'Violette Nouvelle' rose References
Book (2001) Page(s) 204, pl. 81. Includes photo(s). Rose Violette Nouvelle The 'Neue Violette' is listed by the Napoleonshöhe catalogue 1811 and by Schelhase 1825. Nickels lists a tea rose 'Violette Nouvelle', the description of which could refer to this picture. But since the first tea rose did not reach England from Canton until 1808, Pinhas cannot have painted it in 1806. The picture appears to show a cabbage rose. It is striking that descriptive names for such roses, which do not exist elsewhere, were used in Weissenstein for some seedlings. It is possible that other growers later gave new names to these roses.
