I think Brown's 'Fair Maid', raised "about the year 1796", should be considered a Hybrid China, and significantly earlier than '1814'.
Journal of a Horticultural Tour Through Some Parts of Flanders, Holland, and the North of France (1823) pp. 529-530 LIST of some New Roses, raised by Mr BROWNÂ of New Scone
Fair Maid, pale red, semi-double, in habit allied to the blush China rose, raised from the Portland or crimson monthly, R. centifolia.

Le Bon Jardinier pour l'annee 1828 (1827) p. 782 R. B. DE 1814 ou R. VIBERT, grandes fleurs doubles, cramoisi foncé.
Could "1814" be a reference to something Napoleon-related (e.g., his exile to Elba that year)? As I recall, Vibert was a great admirer of Napoleon. And purple is the traditional color of mourning.
