Bred by Alfred James Fraser (United Kingdom, 1950).
Introduced in United Kingdom by Bees of Chester / Sealand Nurseries Ltd. in 1950 as 'Josephine Bruce'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1952 as 'Josephine Bruce'.
Introduced in United States by Tottys/Charles H. Totty Company in 1953 as 'Josephine Bruce'.
Class:
Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Dark red to crimson.  Mild to strong fragrance.  24 to 25 petals.  Average diameter 5.5".  Very large, double (17-25 petals) bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Bushy, spreading, well-branched.  Dark green foliage.  

Height: 2' to 47" (60 to 120cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 7b and warmer.  Disease susceptibility: susceptible to Mildew.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.  Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .
