Veronica O’Brien,  My Top Australian Bred Roses
Angela Rose Taylor A pink bi-coloured floribunda bred before 2001 is so named to commemorate the life of Angela Rose Taylor who died in the Russell St bombing in 1986. This Rose was bred by Keith Smith before 2001. Its parents are 'Hannah Gordon' and 'Raspberry lce’. It was introduced by John Nieuwesteeg in 2001 and little is known about this breeder apart from the fact that he lived in Victoria and only bred two Roses.

Resilient and beautiful - the rose named in memory of Angela Rose Taylor suits its namesake to a tee. Constable Angela Rose Taylor was the first Victorian policewoman killed in the line of duty, after a bomb exploded outside the Russell Street police headquarters in March 1986. She was 21 when she died four weeks after the blast. On the 1st August, 2001 her parents Marilyn and Arthur Taylor planted the rose named ‘Angela Rose Taylor’ in a bed of the recently established "Federation Leaf' or Stage 2 of the Victoria State Rose Garden at Werribee Park. The bed will be fully completed as plants become available. The rose ‘Angela Rose Taylor’ is a "Living Memorial" to a courageous young policewoman who paid the ultimate price for the purchase of law and order in our community. This lovely rose was bred by Mr. Smith of Mooroolbark, Victoria. It is a seedling of ‘Hannah Gordon’, softer in colour with excellent fragrance and very healthy growth. In every way it is truly an outstanding Australian bred rose. "To me it is something beautiful that has come out of something so very tragic. It is a very hardy rose and Angela was a strong little fighter", Mrs. Taylor said. The rose will be sold from next winter with proceeds to benefit The Victorian Police Blue Ribbon Foundation.
….
I do not know what it is like to lose a loved one under such tragic circumstances. However, the events of 27th. March 1986 will forever live in my memory. For I was there and was deeply moved by the events of that sad day. Subsequently, my roses became a way of life, standing for something that was good and kind and beautiful. Angela Rose Taylor will forever be in our hearts and in our memories,
'The rainbow comes and goes And lovely is the rose .....'
