Christopher Marlowe
This rose is of a colour not usually associated with English Roses: an intense orange-red, paling a little to salmon-pink on the outer petals as the flowers age.  The flowers are cupped in the bud, opening to medium-sized rosettes; the outer petals eventually reflexing a little.  They are produced freely and with remarkable continuity.  There is a pleasing tea fragrance, with a hint of lemon.  [...]
Named after the playwright and contemporary of William Shakespeare.

As I said, the three new varieties are quite different. Christopher Marlowe differs from most other Austin's in its colour. It starts a fairly intense orange-red changing quite dramatically to a salmon-pink gradually fading as the flowers age. It produces a lot of stems from the centre that arch over to make a beautifully rounded plant with all the flowers produced neatly on top. It is incredibly free flowering and would make a wonderful informal hedge about 1 metre or so tall or a great show in a rose or mixed border. It has a pleasant Tea fragrance with a hint of lemon.

David Austin presented... Other varieties introduced are.... and 'Christopher Marlowe' a vibrant orange-red rose, which pales to salmon-pink as the bloom ages. It is a free-flowering healthy shrub with a pleasing Tea fragrance.
