I have been trying to ID this rose for years, found the entry in Phillips & Rix's "The Quest for the Rose". Interestingly it is one of several suckering wild gallica-like roses I have found near old farmhouses in varied climates in South Africa. Anyone researched/documented these 'new world gallicas' obviously carried along by wagon in the late 19th century?? The 2nd photo is of another rose from over 1000miles away. I have found but not collected pale pink specimens as well. Looking at the other photos, the typically gallica central button is missing in all my roses, the effect being more like a centifolia, but the general habit is more typically gallica than anything else I know. Comments please?

Growing in a Sonoma County cemetery. I believe this is "Old Red Runaround," although I read the color as violet. 23 May 2009.
