Breeder's notes:
This purple rose flowered for the first time a few months after a good friend Mr. Anil Kumar succumbed to an illness. He, and we, and a few other friends started a rose society in Hyderabad (capital of Andhra Pradesh State, where Viru was working till 1979) and he always loved the color purple. So, with pain in our hearts, we named this variety ‘Rose Anil’. Over the years, we remember him at different times but definitely every time this plant blooms, and as it is continuous blooming, we are happy to be reminded of our good friend so often.
When it came to the time for being registered we felt that ‘Rose Anil’ would have associations for only those in the rose world in India, and another name had better be thought up. The dusky shades of purple, lilac and magenta this rose displays reminded us of twilight time, and that is the best time to exchange whispered secrets is it not? So we came up with ‘Twilight Secret’.
