Bloom:
Deep red velvet buds of classic form open to bright, hot fire engine red blooms with pointed petals. Moderate, raspberry fragrance. 20 to 35 petals. Average diameter 2.25". Medium, very double, borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, exhibition bloom form. Continuous (perpetual) bloom throughout the season. Ovoid buds.
Habit:
Bushy, well-branched. Medium, semi-glossy, medium green foliage. 5 leaflets.
Height: 18" to 2' (45 to 60cm). Width: 20" to 2' (50 to 60cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 5b through 10b. Can be used for beds and borders, container rose, cut flower, exhibition, garden, hedge or specimen. Very vigorous. Disease susceptibility: disease resistant. Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood.. Can be grown in the ground or in a container (container requires winter protection).

This new variety is from a single seedling created by Frank A. Benardella under controlled conditions in a greenhouse in Englishtown, N.J., by crossing the following two rose plants: The seed parent is a dark red miniature rose, `BENmjul` (U.S. patent application Ser. No. 10/035,940, filed Dec. 21, 2001, abandoned). The pollen parent is a red hybrid tea, `JACecond`, (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 11,369).
Notes:
Deep red, velvet buds of classic form open to bright, hot, fire engine red blooms with pointed petals. A repeat bloomer, Caliente's flowers are borne on single stems above a compact, bushy plant, displaying medium green, disease-resistant foliage. Excellent container plant for the patio or as a border in the garden.
