Bred by Frédéric Damaizin (France, 1864).
Introduced in Australia by Giles and Son in 1881 as 'Madame Charles'.

Bloom:
Deep yellow, salmon-yellow center.  Moderate fragrance.  Medium to large, semi-double to double, semi-globular bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Bushy.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Disease susceptibility: susceptible to Mildew.

Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
The rose in commerce in the USA through Vintage Gardens has more petals and less yellow than the Mme Charles described in books. See References and "Madame Charles (In commerce as in USA)" for this rose.
Said to be very similar to 'Safrano' - see References.
