About the origin of Rosa muscipula, there is some information in French on website http://www.botarosa.org/botarosa/roses/phoenic.htm
where Ivan Louette argues that Rosa muscipula could be a natural hybrid of rosa arvensis with rosa phoenicia, one of the ancestor of Rosa gallica. He says the area of R. arvensis overlaps with the area of R. phoencia Boiss. in the West and South-West of Turkey, according to Ô. Nilsson. Crépin and Boulanger have also underlined the variability of these species in this region. More generally Ivan Louette concludes that the impact of hybridation between R. gallica and the family of the synstilae is probably underestimated.
