'Hannah Baker' rose References
Book (2012) Page(s) 75. Includes photo(s). 'Hannah Bakier'. This rose is an unusual crossing from 'Thornfree Wonder' and 'Sparrieshoop' in 1986. 'Thornfree Wonder' was Ken's foundation rose for his family of thornless rambler roses, but 'Sparrieshoop' is a big, modern, thorny shrub climber. 'Sparrieshoop' is a beautifrul rose with large, pink, single, flat blooms, but its growth is stiff and upright. 'Thornfree Wonder' on the other hand, is a lax, thornless rose with multiple heads of small, white blossoms. As I have only seen 'Hannah Baker' briefly, I cannot attest to its success either in terms of breeding or as a garden rose, but it does look stunning on the fence line at Kemp House in Kerikeri. It was also called 'Takau Bay'. Hannah's rose is described by Ken as flesh-pink single flowers with a creamy white centre and a sweet scent. It flowers over the summer period.
