People have asked about the lineage of this rose. It hasn't one. It was found by Jon Singer in an irrigation ditch adjacent to my property, where nobody in their right mind would plant anything. It shares the ditch with a damask closely resembling Desiree Parmentier, and a couple of interesting Albas. There are--or were, before the flood of 2013--a few slightly different types of FMM in the ditch, which are probably seedlings. One of the albas in the ditch sports pale spots that are really only visible in very cool weather, which may be an offspring.

What an interesting rose.
I asked the miraculous ‘Advanced Search’ facility in HelpMeFind for spotted mosses and it came up with four:
Ponctuée (moss, Hébert, 1829)
Françoise de Foix (moss, Robert, 1855)
Azurella, 1880
Sophie de Marsilly (mossy remontant, Robert & Moreau, 1863)
But none of them had any descendants at all - that we know of. If “Fa’s Marbled Moss” has thrown seedlings then this is an interesting identifying characteristic. But then there is that palely-spotted alba! A lot of mysterious going-ons happened in that ditch I think. (Probably the bath-water from a whole family with measles flowed past at one stage?)

I have a great many seedlings of FMM, but alas I lost many of them in the 2013 flood. FMM puts spots, and often moss, on just about everything it touches.

Just to let anyone in the South know, I grow this rose in St. Petersburg Fl ! Does ok own root or on Fortuniana. Very little blackspot if any. I'm sure it would do better with more chill, but it does alright !
