'Malaga'. Modern Climber. This rose is moderately vigorous and grows well up a pillar, over a fence or up a wall. It is also good for a small garden. Bred by McGredy in NZ and introduced in 1971 it bears repeated clusters of pinkish red, pointed, loosely double flowers that have a strong and sweet fragrance. If the spent spring flowers are not removed it bears huge panicles of bright red hips which persist through the autumn flowering. Foliage is dark green and glossy. (['Hamburger Phoenix' x 'Danse de Feu'] x 'Copenhagen'). Zones 6-9.

Malaga Large-flowered Climber. Deep coral-pink, 'Malaga' bears its blooms on and off all season on a shortish climber with glossy green leaves. So far so ordinary, but the nice thing about t his 1971 Sam McGredy creation is the really excellent fragrance, a quality not overly abundant among the repeat-flowering modern Climbers. Foliage is glossy and dark green. It was named for the Spanish resort. Parentage: ('Hamburger Phoenix' x 'Danse du Feu') x 'Copenhagen', Repeat flowering. Fragrant.
