Regarding the last line but one on the description page, I think it's certain that this rose was introduced in 1946. Tantau themselves say so on their website, and so does the plate at Rosarium Uetersen, where the Tantau nursery is nearby.

"Height of 31" to 5'", as the description says, may be on the conservative side for this rose. We inherited a row of 30+ year old Märchenland when we bought the house a couple of years ago and they were closer to 7'. I have since removed all but one (with so many roses out there, who wants nine of the same sort in a really tiny garden?) and pruned that one almost to the ground in Spring 2011. It's already back to 5' (and also 5' wide btw). This can be an imposing shrub if left to grow.

Mine grows easily to 5' or 6'; so I would agree that is a more realistic size.
