The right name of this rose is "Agnes und Betha". Betha is the short form of Elisa-beth.

According to all literature (see references and internet) the name is Agnes and Bertha, named after two nieces of Bruder Alfons. If you have different information, can you please give us a source.

My mistake to not ask for a reference - thank you jedmar.

Bruder Alfons lived and worked in the "Kloster Germershausen" where his two nieces, Agnes and Betha, were working sometimes, too. Pater Ewald who also lived in the "Kloster Germershausen" has found out a lot of Bruder Alfons and his roses. He invited me some years ago and told me the story of Betha and that this rose has been made from "Agnes und Betha" to "Agnes und Bertha" when they have brought it to Sangerhausen. Pater Ewald published his work of the roses from Bruder Alfons in " Eichsfelder Heimatzeitschrift".
Perhaps you can say, NOW the name is Agnes und Bertha, but thats not what the breeder wanted to.

How interesting,! Thank you so much for sharing this bit of history. This is exactly the kind of information that makes HMF so unique. I only wish more people would share these "secrets". Thanks again.
