The following experiences of a single horticulturist (Ernest Walker, New Albany, Indiana), with one rose, illustrate this fact admirably. “I have had a number of sports of the Perle des Jardins rose,” he writes me, “in our greenhouses. The first one
was a double silvery pink with a short bud, and a very double, somewhat quartered flower. The stock of this I sold, as a new variety, for fifty dollars...

Pink Perle.— Mr. P. H. Meehan, Richmond, Va., sends us a bloom produced by a sport from Perle des Jardins and which he labels "Pink Perle." The bloom was about the size of a small Perle, of a pink shade, though deeidedlv washy when it reached us. Of course color and size may improve with the strength of the plant, but what use have we for a pink Perle? Do we want one, and will it pay Mr. Meehan to work up a stock of it? We seriously doubt it.

Two Sports from the Perle.
Nanz & Neuner, Louisville, Ky., send us blooms of two sports from Perle des Jardins. One is white in color, and named "White Perle des Jardins," the other is pink and named " Pink Perle des Jardins." The blooms received were about the size and shape of a small Perle, but as they were presumably from very young plants it may not be just to condemn them on account of small size. Both were fragrant and the foliage of each had the characteristics of the yellow Perle. Of course time only will demonstrate whether they will be of value to the florist, but sports from the Perle are certainly worthy of a thorough trial and we shall be glad to hear the result of such trial.
In view of the fact that a sport from the Perle, which originated in England, has been named " White Perle" it might be well to change that of this American sport.
