Turbinata Rosenbergiana alias Muscade noire. Beautiful, fragrant. Outer petals almost white, centre tender pink, often lined lilac, 2 1/2 in., semi-double; sepals undivided, small prickles on the outside; inflorescence almost in clusters; bracts longish; Stem up to 3 S[chritt](ca. 225 cm), bushy: Foliage Ovate, glabrous above, pubescent below, deeply serrated; Thorns Almost straight, yellowish, of uneven length; June; a large part of the buds becomes black and falls off - supposedly the reason for its French name. Homeland South Europe.

The United States, and adjacent Indian settlements, possess a great variety of roses, of which a few striking species may be enumerated. In the marshes of Carolina grows the Rosa lucida, the bright clusters of which rise above the reeds and rushes; beside the waves of the Missouri, the Rosa Woodsii; and in the adjoining marshes, the Rosa Carolina, and Rosa Evratina, whose double flowers of a pale pink, perish if transplanted to garden ground from the marshy banks of the rivulets of Virginia, of which the shrub is a native.

MM. POIRET et LINDLEY disent que ce rosier est naturel au sol de la Caroline; on pourrait douter de ce fait, parce que l'arbrisseau ne se trouve pas dans la nomenclature particulière que nous a donnée, des rosiers indigènes de ces contrées, M. NUTTALL, en 1818.

661 Rosa Evratina. Die rothe Muscatrose. Kräftiger Strauch mit sehr starken breiten, krummen Stacheln an den Hauptzweigen besetzt, an den übrigen fast ohne Stacheln. Blätter gewöhnlich von sieben dunkelgrünen Blättchen, seltener von fünf oder neun. Dretheilige mit Stacheln besetzte rauhdrüsige klebrige und wohlriechende in vielblüthigen Dolden vereinigte Blumenstiele. Eiförmiger, sehr rauher, drüsiger Fruchtknoten. Blume klein, blassroth, gefüllt, öffnet sich selten gut. ....20 Silbergroschen
