'Rosa macrophylla 'Korolkowii'' rose References
Book (1981) Page(s) 111. R. macrophylla 'Korolkowii' Stems stout, almost thornless, purplish red. Leaves mostly of nine, leaflets up to 2½ in. long...glandular and silky-hairy on the veins beneath. Flowers pink, 2½ in...fruit vermillion, long, tapering to the base. R. macrophylla var. korolkowii Vilm. & Bois. The original plant grew in the Segrez Arboretum and was propagated by Vilmorin, but its origin is uncertain. It is possibly the same as the R. cinnamomea var. korolkowii of Regel....if so, it was found by Korolkow in a garden at Khiva in Uzbekistan. It is surprising, however, that even a cultivated form of R. macrophylla should have found its way to an area so far from the western limit of the species.

Article (magazine) (1928) The fifth tetraploid variety is a garden form of the wild diploid species EE, R. macrophylla Lindl. (em.) having the specific characters of the E septet of chromosomes and the septet formula EEEE: this form belongs to the typical R. macrophylla Lindl. and according to Regel (1877) was found in gardens at Khiva by Korolkowi: there is a plant of this at Kew named R. macrophylla var Korolkowi and another at Cambridge (from Albury) and my material has been obtained from both these plants.
Book (1917) Page(s) 37. Mr. H. R. Darlington. Some Early-Flowering Species of Roses. There is a variety R. macrophylla korolkowi with decidedly more beautiful flowers [than R.macrophylla]. These are better filled by the petals, which are of a delightful shade of soft pink.
Magazine (1903) Page(s) 489-492. Some Wild Asiatic Roses. Maurice L. de Vilmorin....In the collections of M. Alphonse Lavallée, under the name of Rosa Korolkowi, I found a still taller variety [of macrohylla], with large, round, straight, almost thornless shoots, and an ample glossy foliage nearly as large as is found in the Tea-scented Roses. The flower is comparatively large, but the shade is of a lighter pink. The fruit is large, sometimes two inches long. The variety is well worth cultivation.
