Oranges 'n' Lemons. Hybrid tea. syns 'Papagena', MACoranlem. Bred by McGredy and introduced in 1992, the first synonym honors the girlfriend of Papageno in Mozart's The Magic Flute. The very full flowers are striped yellow and orange. They are shapely, come in clusters and open from elegant buds on long stems. Foliage is dark green, very glossy and disease-resistant, red-tinted when young. Growth is tall and arching, so that it can be grown as a climber if so desired. After a good spring flush the repeat is a bit sparse. ('Roller Coaster' x 'New Year'). Zones 6-10.

Gerard Williams. Final Analysis 1998-99
Oranges & Lemons (MACoranlem); McGredy 1994; orange and yellow striped; 29 reports on 42 bushes; 1-5 years; 1.3 metres; 7.0 rating. The reports vary greatly on this rose so one will say "I don't like it" and another says it is "spectacular". It is a healthy rose with few disease problems and gives a fast repeat in the Spring and early Summer, but later spends its time sending up long shoots with not too many flowers. The striped blooms make a real splash in the garden and the flowers are good for floral work. The large stems can also do well on the Show bench. If you like the striking and unusual colour you should enjoy this rose.

Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1997-98 Season.
Oranges & Lemons (MACoranlem); McGredy 1994; orange and yellow striped; 4 reports on 4 plants; 3 years; 1.5 metres; 6.4 (interim) rating. Reports have dropped down this year and no improvement in the ratings which signifies this striped rose is not being viewed favourably. Bay of Plenty reports vigorous lax growth which needs support, flowers few and far between and they fade badly, very healthy dark foliage. North Harbour says very healthy bush, lovely dark foliage, likes the flower colour but very slow repeat. Golden Bay reports black spot, downy mildew, colourful when it decides to flower. Manawatu says unusual and bizarre, colour fades badly, few flowers and poor repeat, growth rather gawky, healthy dark foliage-very red when young. A rose with a difference.
