Vintage Gardens states that this rose is a sport of 'Duchesse d'Orleans' despite some references, and that 'Ardoissee de Lyon' actually is a sport of 'Baronne Prevost.' These assessments are based on the sports sporting back, then compared to the correct originals.

The question is whether Vintage is comparing the "correct" roses. Take 'Ardoisé de Lyon' for example: None of the photos of the rose in commerce are in line with the description "vivid red center, slaty blue outer petals".

I received this as a transplant from Cliff Orent's desert garden 2011. The hot summer weather was very hard on, and since then I've read that it likes cooler climates. I hope it pulls through the winter. It didn't make it, even though we have had one of the warmest winters in history.
