Unfortunately, Pergolèse (Moreau et Robert, 1860), Comte de Chambord (Moreau et Robert 1860), Marie Robert (Moreau et Robert, circa 1860?), Jacques Cartier (Moreau-Robert, 1868), and Rembrandt (Moreau-Robert, 1883) all seem to be wrongly named. The false Pergolèse is of typical Gallica persuasion and never reblooms.

Gallicas...Pergolèse No rebloom. Outstanding fragrance. Low, suckering and dense. (ex San Jose Heritage Rose Garden). Small, double, rounded rather formal flowers are deep amaranth purple shaded slatey blue and pale lilac with a green pointel in the center. This is not a Portland but a Gallica hybrid, but is the name is correct, and did Moreau introduce a Portland rose different from this? We offer what is grown elsewhere the same.

Portland-Roses...'Pergolèse' (Robert et Moreau 1860, F). Giovanni Pergolèse was a composer of opera and ecclestiacal music from Naples. The interesting colouring of this rose is similar to those of Gallicas. She has less than medium size blooms, which are flat and nicely quartered. They vary in colour from cherry-red to purple-lilac with darker shading, sometimes even showing a green eye. The small, fragrant clusters look nice anong the dark green foliage of the upright shrub. The variety does not always rebloom. 1,2m tall.
