Article (magazine) (2007) Page(s) 53. Unfortunately, Pergolèse (Moreau et Robert, 1860), Comte de Chambord (Moreau et Robert 1860), Marie Robert (Moreau et Robert, circa 1860?), Jacques Cartier (Moreau-Robert, 1868), and Rembrandt (Moreau-Robert, 1883) all seem to be wrongly named. The false Pergolèse is of typical Gallica persuasion and never reblooms.
Book (2006) Page(s) 16. Gallicas...Pergolèse No rebloom. Outstanding fragrance. Low, suckering and dense. (ex San Jose Heritage Rose Garden). Small, double, rounded rather formal flowers are deep amaranth purple shaded slatey blue and pale lilac with a green pointel in the center. This is not a Portland but a Gallica hybrid, but is the name is correct, and did Moreau introduce a Portland rose different from this? We offer what is grown elsewhere the same.
Book (2002) Page(s) 144. Portland...'Pergolèse' Gallica-like plant with flowers double, purplish-red, fading. Parentage unknown, raised Moreau, France 1860.
Book (1997) Page(s) 177. Pergolèse Portland. Moreau (France) 1860. Description and cultivation... a very good rose... flowers: rich purple-crimson sometimes paling to soft lilac-mauve... shows considerable Gallica influence...

Description and cultivation... fragrant blooms of rich bright plum-purple infused with cherry-crimson, resembling an old-fashioned tulle rose... This rose has Gallica-like foliage and is often classified with the Gallica roses...
Book (1992) Page(s) 106. Portland-Roses...'Pergolèse' (Robert et Moreau 1860, F). Giovanni Pergolèse was a composer of opera and ecclestiacal music from Naples. The interesting colouring of this rose is similar to those of Gallicas. She has less than medium size blooms, which are flat and nicely quartered. They vary in colour from cherry-red to purple-lilac with darker shading, sometimes even showing a green eye. The small, fragrant clusters look nice anong the dark green foliage of the upright shrub. The variety does not always rebloom. 1,2m tall.
