He especially liked one seedling, originated from 'Ewald Scholle' x 'Alba Meidiland', with whitish pink double blooms, considerable growth and good disease resistance even in an extreme Location. Wänninger was only not satisfied with the limited durability of the blooms.
The next trial was based on a crossing of this seedling as the pollen parent with 'Rosenprinz' as the seed parent, whereof only three seedlings originated which had all which Wänninger wished for. These were small, lasting bloom clusters, double in deep pink, healthy foliage, but only one seedling showed some growth....
His stomach feeling said to him: cross this seedling again with 'Alba Meidiland'! ....He took this time the seedling as the seed parent, and four heps ripened. 12 of the 17 seeds germinated and developed well. When they were fully developed, they had everything which Wänninger had dreamt of. However, the plants had to stay stable during the year. In the following year, six seedlings were still very good. These were grafted on three roses per seedling. A friend gave him a piece of land where these could be planted out and tested during two years. After that, four roses remained, which fulfilled the high expectations of the breeder. 'Unschuld'... 'Lichttraum'... 'Solar'...'Kirsch-Rose'.
