It continues to have splendid, very big show blooms of a rather light shade of red. The plants are vigorous and very free flowering. We will see a lot of this rose on show benches.

Book (1970) p152. Dr. Thomas, [Victoria]. The New Ones. Red Lion, HT. (McGredy, 1965). (Kordes' Perfecta x Schlosser's Brillant) Very big exhibition type flowers in light red colouring - the older flowers are almost deep pink. Some of the Spring flowers are too coarse, I am told by English friends. This is not so on my very young plants but it should be a fine show rose in the Autumn if not in both Spring and Autumn.
p155. Mr. W. G. Treloar, Portland, Victoria. The New Ones. Red Lion The light red blooms of 30-35 petals show promise. Has appeared on the show bench in Tasmania already.

Book (1969) p25 Pamela Morrah. ‘Red Lion’ is an aristocrat which will need to be grown with care. My new bushes (one seven feet in height) are suffering from too much fertiliser and the flowers too large. I’ll try a starvation diet for them next year. Like many strong growers, ‘Red Lion’ may produce more refined blooms if grown from a cutting.
