[1st season] does not like to form an opinion on new varieties of one year's testing, so makes no definite statement. Free (N.Y.) [6 plants, 1st yr] reports poor growth, with flowers of a wonderful dark crimson color, but blooms very sparse in fall. Dunning (N.Y.) [1 plant, 1st yr] had good growth but only a few large, deep red, fragrant flowers, somewhat like 'Sensation'. Hampton (Tex.) has tried it twice but has had no luck. Raffel (Calif.) calls it one of the finest red roses during the spring and fall but his strong-growing plants had some mildew.
