During the festival a girl is elected to be the Rose of Tralee for the year - the title, of course, comes from the familiar song, which was written by a man called William Mulchinock, who died in 1864. My involvement was to name a rose the 'Rose of Tralee' - there had never been a rose of Tralee in the flower sense before.....
