I can not find 'Eastern Gem' or 'Easter Gem' in any of the Conard Jones or Dingee Conard catalogs of the time, although I could have missed it. There are a few listings from that time frame for 'The Gem', a Tea that HMF treats as synonymous with 'Winter Gem' and 'Marie Van Houtte'.

The descriptions for 'The Gem' and 'Winter Gem' are unalike, so the case for synonymity is very weak there. The coloring of 'The Gem' at least sounds like that of 'Marie van Houtte', but also like that of a few other Tea roses, so I'm not sure if there's a good case there either.

I'd be interested if anyone can shed any light on the name 'Eastern Gem' as a synonym for 'The Gem'.
