Paul, is the pollen parent listed here Magseed, or the result of your reproducing that cross?

Sorry, I didn't see this question till today. Yes, the pollen parent is actually "Magseed".

Paul, I just read your note about the disease resistance of Cannikin being so good. You may want to cross R. moyesii pollen onto it next season - this cross resulted in 24 seeds from two hips this season.

But did they GERMINATE?! I generated literally hundreds (perhaps as many as 1000) seeds from Midnight Blue X moyesii in 2011, but not a single one germinated. Just sayin'

I'm more inclined to cross Cannikin with other tetraploids of known fertility, like Bayse's Blueberry, for example. Whats that you say??....pink, pink and more PINK?! *laughs* yes, well......you have to make compromises in the search for genuine health, I think ;-)

I work in a bit smaller scale than you do.

It's easy to lose track of our various conversations so having come across this one about moyesii crosses I'm posting some results to date here.

Using moyesii pollen, of the many pollinations that yielded seeds I have seedlings in the test beds from:

Incantation
Joycie
Mister Lincoln

of which the hybridity of the Joycie and Mr. Lincoln crosses is certain.

As for Cannikin, in 2012 I got 14 embryos out of 34 seeds although, through my own fault, none germinated.

This season ( 2013) I have 40 seeds from five hips of moyesii on Cannikin, hopefully I won't screw these up.

Dr. Buck's lament precisely! "Pink, pink and more pink". Most of his genuinely resistant roses are "default pink".
