To quote from Ludwig's site: "The Hollard Insurance company felt fitting to award one of their long time employees with a new and novel rose. The colour of the selected rose is indeed novel, sought after blend of brown, mauve and lilac. Rose breeders try to achieve this, by cross pollinating lilac coloured roses with either yellow or copper coloured roses. Heike, Ludwig’s eldest daughter started breeding roses under his guidance several years ago and ‘NanMac’ is the result of her search for this unusual colour in roses. After much effort – seeds from a cross between ‘Belle Epoque’ and ‘Blue Ribbon’, both highly fragrant varieties, were planted and very soon the promise of this new variety became evident. The quick repeating flowering habit, the healthy foliage, excellent fragrance, elegant bud and unusual colouring of this rose made it a sure winner. ‘Nan Mac’ plays a very important part in Ludwig’s Roses proud history - after 30 years of supplying the public with the most beautiful roses from around the world – this will be the first ‘in-house’ bred commercially released rose."
