Doug Grant, A Tribute to Sam McGredy.
I have been fortunate to have been on the receiving end of Sam's inspiration over the many years that followed since my student days. This has assisted my breeding work considerably. Sam gave the rose world 'Molly McGredy' and 'Satchmo' from which I produced the 2001 New Zealand Rose of the Year winner 'Millennium' (a.k.a. 'Everlasting Love') and the parents for three of my climbers 'Cherry Kisses ', 'Candy Kisses' and 'All My Love', all past Best Climber Award winners from NZ Rose of the year Trials.

Doug Grant. Final Analysis for 2011
'Cherry Kisses' (Grachloe) Grant 2004. Climber. Reports: 30, Plants: 63, Garden: 7.7, Exhibition: 7.3, Height: Medium-Tall, Health: Very Good, Fragrance: Moderate. A small compact climber which is not too vigorous and ideal for smaller spaces. A different eye-catching colour for a climber with large trusses of frilly pinky mauve blooms. Blooms are long lasting. Plants are reasonably healthy except some blackspot when growing in wet humid conditions.

p42 Marian and Michael Brown. My Favourite Climbers. A new one for us is 'Cherry Kisses' - Doug Grant, 2004. With very attractive and unusual mauve tonings this is proving to be very eyecatching and has drawn much comment from visitors. It is growing vigorously and is a worthy addition to the garden.

David Ruston. The Northland Rose Tour. Two arches of Doug Grant's climbers 'Emma' and 'Chloe' were the best varieties I have ever seen on arches because of their lax habit of growth giving a much more natural cascading effect than stiff growers like 'Dublin Bay' and 'Altissimo'.
