My 3-year old Super Dorothy has grown over 15' on an arch but only blooms in spring although it is in full sun, watered and fertilized regularly.

I never watered or fertilized mine and I think it achieved four feet of prostrate growth in five years. I think maybe it bloomed once during that whole time, probably after a soaking early summer rain. Not a spot of disease on it, though.

I wonder whether this might be a rose a little better suited to coolish summers than most. I wonder too whether it thrives on soil with more dampness than one is used to providing shorter roses budded onto multiflora or Dr. Huey rootstock. I saw it growing in a private garden in California once, long ago. It was in full bloom, but for some reason it struck me as the saddest rose I saw in that garden.

I am growing 'Super Dorothy' and 'Super Excelsa' along a fence and find they are both good bloomers. They are rare amongst ramblers in that few varieties do repeat. They're both tough and vigorous, unscented but earn their placement.
