If the lateral is not a strong one, however, and always in the case of soft wooded varieties ( examples - Angele Pernet, Sweet Sixteen), we leave the whole of the shoot above the lateral intact until the succeeding Winter, by which time the wood will be sufficiently mature to heal a large main stem cut without dieback.

Sweet Sixteen (1 plant, 1 year). Free growing. Well formed medium sized blooms in pleasing shades of apricot and pink reminding one of Shot Silk and Elite. Full blown flower is very attractive. Will probably just miss a place.

Novelty Roses 1949. Sweet Sixteen. (HT.  Lammerts 1943) Shapely, fragrant dainty pink blooms of 20 petals, tinted rose and gold and fading to lighter shades. It will be at its best in the cooler climates. This must not be confused with 'Sweet Seventeen' sent out by Alister Clark in 1943. 10/6 each.

Sweet Sixteen is not of wide-spread adaptation but is very much at home in the cooler portions of the Pacific Coast. It is rated as one of the very best for this section by those who know it.
