Thanks Jane, I love it when members share what they have found. There is a slim chance that Alister renamed 'Advance Australia', but I don't know why he should as it was a good name. We know that it was bred prior to 1934, and that it was similar to 'Etoile de Hollande'. (Again this year my 'Etoile de Hollande' very briefly opens to red, then quickly changes blues to a purple colour. One might, at a pinch, even call it a very deep pink).
If he did rename 'Advance Australia', some roses which were gifted to the National Rose Society of Victoria after 1934 were: 'Janet Morrison', 1936. Deep pink. Was named in 1932, so we can discount this rose. . 'Ella Guthrie' 1937. Pink. Discounted as it was named in 1928. 'Emily Rhodes' 1937. Pink 'Gwendoline Collins' 1937. Carmine, shaded cherry ''Sophie Mackinnon' 1937. Dark red.
And then there was 'The Rajah' 1937, red, but there was no mention of this [the proceeds] being gifted at all.
perhaps the rose failed his performance requirements & therefore wasn't released, after all the report (at the time of publication) makes clear that this proviso was still to be met.
I wonder if Quick Sticks met a similar fate as well?
