Topaz Jewel is an amazingly drought-tolerant rose. I had her in a pot for a couple of years, where she didn't thrive, and then put her to the ultimate test in super-harsh conditions, fully exposed to sun and wind, no water except for the rain (and there was none in my part of Germany two record-breaking summers in a row after she got planted), and adding insult to injury she is being overgrown by grass, because I'm not the nice gardener I should be and I don't remove the grass. But she still hangs on! The only other two roses to survive this ordeal (poor beauties) are Alexander MacKenzie and Rotes Phänomen.

One of the Topaz Jewel OP seeds germinated. Today the first known seedling with T.J. as hip-parent has been born. I'm excited!!!

Thank You Sir!
It looked as if I was bragging... but I just was excited.
Now I'll have to impatiently await what comes out.

It is still alive and shows no sign of mildew or other diseases... despite lots of rain.

Alas the Topaz Jewel seedling didn't survive!
But Graham D Jenkins-Belohorska did some nice work crossing it with Thérèse Bugnet.
