Marián Kováč, Bratislava, Slovakia - the historian of roses:
Dark climbing of rose ´Jean Liabaud´ 1930, with large, very full, very dark crimson, black shaded flowers, with petals arranged like tiles. One of the darkest roses; was growing in the Sangerhausen Rosarium.
Countess was single and this rose would be possibly the memory of her unfulfilled love.

From the booklet : Stanislav Petráš - Ružová grófka a jej svet, Dolná Krupá, Slovakia, 2010. (see the picture)

´Cl. Jean Liabeaud´
(the rose No. 142, in Countess Chotek rose and price list from 1929):
Rankender Sport von der prachtvollen, schwarzroten Samtrose gleichen Names.
