Origin:

Bred by Mathias Tantau, Jr. (1912 - 2006) (Germany, before 1966).
Introduced in Germany by Rosen-Tantau/Tantau Roses in 1967 as 'Whisky'.
Introduced in Australia by Treloar Roses in 1970 as 'Whisky'.

Class:

Hybrid Tea.

Bloom:

Yellow, copper shading. Bronze-yellow. Strong fragrance. 30 to 38 petals. Average diameter 4". Large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, classic hybrid tea, urn-shaped bloom form. Prolific, blooms in flushes throughout the season. Medium, long, ovoid buds.

Habit:

Bushy, upright. Glossy, dark green, dense foliage.

Height: 30" to 5' (75 to 150cm). Width: 2' (60cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b and warmer. Can be used for beds and borders or garden. Vigorous. Disease susceptibility: blackspot resistant, susceptible to Mildew. Protect tender new spring growth from hard freezes that may cause canker, die-back and death of the plant. . Remove spent blooms to encourage re-bloom. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that. Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .
